Short answer. Repair fits a limited, visible defect on a gutter that is otherwise the right size and still attached to a sound fascia. Replacement fits a system whose profile, pitch, outlets, or attachment no longer match the roof. Age alone does not decide, and this page does not promise a lifespan.

01 / FIELD NOTE

A repair covers a limited defect the rest of the system can still carry.

Focused work can include a leaking corner or end cap, a failed seal, a loose hanger, a separated joint, or one damaged outlet, when the trough is still the right size for that roof and the fascia can still hold it. PrimeFlow looks at the joint, the pitch toward the outlet, the hanger line, and the downspout that should be taking the water. Building America treats the gutter and the downspout as one route, so a reseal that leaves a crushed elbow in place is not a finished repair. A photo can show a drip. It cannot prove the screw depth, the wood behind the fascia, or why the joint opened.

  • One corner, one outlet, or one short section, with the rest of the run still serviceable.
  • A seal or hanger that can be redone without rebuilding the edge.
  • A downspout elbow or bracket that is loose and still the right size.
02 / FIELD NOTE

Replacement fits a system that no longer matches the roof.

Replacement is the lead option when the profile is too small for the planes that feed it, the pitch holds water, outlets are too few or in the wrong place, the trough has pulled away along a long run, or the same leak comes back after a local fix. It is also the time to replan downspouts and the release point, not to hang a new trough on the old mistakes. This is a condition review. It is not a year count, and it is not a claim that a percentage of Florida gutters fail for one reason.

  • Pitch, outlet layout, or profile that cannot be corrected with a local patch.
  • Attachment that has let go along more than one short section.
  • Repeated leaks after a prior reseal of the same joint.
  • A roof change, such as a reroof or a new valley, that the old layout does not follow.
03 / FIELD NOTE

The fascia sets a limit the gutter cannot argue with.

The hanger needs a sound board or another approved mounting surface. Soft, split, or rotten-looking fascia, or a gutter that has already pulled off the plane, is a reason to stop and look before anyone sells a reseal. Visible wear does not diagnose the wood behind the metal. It does mean a repair scope has to say whether fascia work is included, excluded, or left for another trade. Soffit and fascia notes belong in the same written scope when they change how the gutter can be attached.

04 / FIELD NOTE

Overflow is not automatically a replacement.

A gutter can spill because of debris, a clogged outlet, a downspout that cannot empty, water shooting past the front lip, or a valley dumping on one short section. Those can be a cleaning note, an added outlet, or a repair. They become a replacement conversation only after the route is checked and the trough itself is the constraint. The overflow guide and the five failure-point FAQ walk through that order in shorter form. Sarasota County still tells residents to confirm gutters are secured and to clear clogs before storm season. A clog is not a new gutter.

Orlando and Sarasota use the same decision and different page splits.

In Orlando, focused repair and resealing sit on one service page, and seamless replacement sits on another. In Sarasota, repair and replacement are introduced together, and seamless replacement has its own page. The split is how the site is organized. It is not a different rule for each county. Both markets start with the same question: can this edge still perform with a limited repair, or does the route need to be rebuilt?

The visit is free. The job is booked after the written scope and the deposit.

Request a free estimate and say which edge leaks, sags, or overflows. The visit can end in a repair, an added outlet, a partial run, or a replacement. None of that is scheduled as booked work until the written scope and the required deposit are set, unless a written waiver says otherwise. Compare proposals by what they include, not by a headline number. This page does not quote a price.
