Central Florida teaching hub

ROOF-WATER
MANAGEMENT.

A teaching guide to how roof runoff, gutters, downspouts, and discharge interact on a Central Florida property, and where a gutter company’s work stops.

Direct answer

THE HUB TEACHES.
THE SERVICE PAGE SELLS.

Gutters manage roof water only along the edges they collect. A useful system connects roof area, gutter profile, outlets, downspouts, and a practical discharge direction. It does not grade the lot, repair a foundation, size a public storm drain, or promise that a house will stay dry. Use the guides below to separate those questions, then use the service pages when you want PrimeFlow to price a written scope.

Code mentions on the linked guides use the Florida Building Code, 8th Edition (2023), as the baseline. A ninth-edition Building product is identified in publisher materials with an effective date of December 31, 2026. Section numbers are research anchors. The full adopted text was not retrieved for this publication, so the guides do not state those sections as legal requirements.

START WITH
THE ROUTE.

These four guides are the first batch. Two older answers, on overflow and on 6-inch versus 7-inch, were expanded in place. The discharge guide was expanded at its existing address. The foundation guide is new and points at the older slab-boundary page instead of repeating it.

HOW GUTTERS HELP MANAGE WATER NEAR A FOUNDATION.

Gutters can move collected roof runoff away from a foundation edge. They do not diagnose soil, structure, groundwater, or flooding.

WHY A GUTTER CAN OVERFLOW EVEN WHEN IT LOOKS LARGE.

Overflow should be traced through the full roof-water route—collection demand, fascia alignment, outlet capacity, downspout quantity, vertical routing, and discharge direction—rather than blamed on one component by assumption.

6-INCH OR 7-INCH GUTTERS?

Six-inch seamless gutters are a premium residential baseline for many Florida homes. Seven-inch capacity is a property decision, not an automatic upgrade for tile or for a larger label.

WHERE SHOULD DOWNSPOUTS DISCHARGE?

A downspout should release collected roof water where the property can accept it, away from the foundation edge, entries, and walks, without pretending to solve the whole yard.

Seven pillars

ONE SUBJECT
AT A TIME.

Each pillar has a different decision. Follow the link that matches the question you actually have. A savings article and a full rainfall article are still ahead; they are not implied by the links below.

01

Foundation and moisture

Roof water that falls along a wall is a different problem from groundwater or a cracked slab. Gutters change the release point. They do not diagnose the structure.

Foundation-edge guide
02

Rainfall and water flow

Area and intensity decide how much water shows up at an eave. A labeled hypothetical on the foundation guide shows the volume math. It is not a design storm.

Why overflow happens
03

Gutters, roofs, and workmanship

Profile, pitch, outlets, and the fascia plane work together. Six-inch is a strong baseline. Seven-inch is a demand decision, not a tile-roof rule.

6-inch or 7-inch
04

Discharge and site drainage

A downspout makes a point load. The property has to have a place for that water that is not the foundation edge, the front walk, or a neighbor’s yard.

05

Commercial drainage

Commercial and box gutters need their own roof, access, and coordination review. They are not a house system scaled up by assumption.

06

Costs and savings

A price is a written scope. This hub does not publish avoided repair bills or payback claims. Compare routes, not a single dollar figure taken from a headline.

Orlando maintenance and installation questions sit on their own pages. Project photos on this site are installation records, not proof of a drainage result unless a caption says so.
