Start where water leaves the intended route.
Overflow at a valley, inside corner, mid-run, outlet, or lower discharge point can point to different constraints. The useful starting record is the exact location, the rain conditions, the roof section above it, nearby valleys, visible debris, gutter condition, and the existing outlet and downspout layout.
Capacity only works with a planned exit path.
A 6-inch-or-larger gutter may be appropriate for many Florida rooflines, but it still needs outlet capacity and downspout quantity that fit the actual collection demand. Approximately one downspout per 30 linear feet can be a useful planning checkpoint, while valleys, roof area, profile, outlet location, routing, and discharge conditions can justify a different layout.
